In September 2024, President Faustin-Archange Touadera came to China to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and President Xi Jinping met with him. The two sides agreed to upgrade the relationship between the two countries to a strategic partnership.
Before July 1991, China provided a large amount of assistance to Central African and undertook a number of complete projects. After the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in January 1998, economic and trade cooperation between the two sides has gradually resumed. In 2024, the bilateral trade volume was 673.76 million yuan.
In June 1980, China and the Central African Republic signed a cultural cooperation agreement. In June 1998, the two governments re-signed the cultural agreement. Since 1977, China has begun to accept students from Central African to study in China. The Confucius Institute at the University of Bangui officially opened in June 2021 and is hosted by Bohai University.
China has sent medical teams to the Central African Republic since 1978, which were interrupted from 1991 to 1997. In 1998, the two governments re-signed the protocol. In January 2013, due to the turbulent situation in the Central African Republic, the Chinese medical team was withdrawn and resumed in December 2017. So far, China has sent 19 medical teams of 286 members to the Central African Republic.
