Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with the President of the Central African Republic and the Foreign Minister of Liberia

On August 20, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met respectively with visiting President of the Central African Republic François Bozizé and the Foreign Minister of Liberia Thomas Yaya Nimley in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Wen Jiabao said that currently development of China's relations with the Central African Republic is enjoying good momentum, with cooperation in various fields constantly enhanced. China appreciates the adherence to the one-China policy by the government of the Central African Republic. So long as the two sides respect each other and do not interfere in each other's internal affairs politically, support each other and enhance cooperation economically, and actively promote exchanges in various areas, relations between the two countries will definitely progress forward in a sustained, steady and sound manner. The Chinese government stands ready to make joint efforts with its counterpart of the Central African Republic towards that end.

Wen Jiabao noted that there are still potentials to be taped for the economic and trade cooperation between China and the Central African Republic. While the two sides are making efforts to expand their trade, they should also further strengthen economic and technological cooperation and prioritize agriculture, infrastructure construction and human resources development for future cooperation. The Chinese government will continue encouraging Chinese enterprises to go to the Central African Republic to participate in its economic development and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation.

Bozizé thanked the Chinese people for their support and assistance to the people of the Central African Republic over the years. He reiterated that the current policy on the Taiwan issue would not be changed, stressing that the government of the Central African Republic is committed to establishing future-oriented friendly relations with China. He said that the cooperation areas proposed by Premier Wen are those direly needed by the Central African Republic, which stands ready to work together with China to make cooperation between the two countries full of vitality and progress forward constantly.

On the same day, Wen Jiabao also met with Foreign Minister of Liberia Nimley. The two sides exchanged views on China-Liberia relations.
