On July 21, 2011, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Cameroonian President Paul Biya in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Wen said China and Cameroon share traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago, both sides have made continuous progress in exchanges and cooperation on politics, economy and culture, which brings benefits to both peoples and makes contributions to developing China-Africa friendship.

"The international financial crisis brought about great losses and damage to the developing countries and consolidated our resolution to strengthen south-south cooperation and to maintain our common interests," Wen said. He added that Cameroon and other African countries are important strategic partners of China, and China will continue to provide assistance in funds, technology and specialized personnel and expand bilateral trade and investment cooperation. Wen also called on the two sides to implement the consensus of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), conduct closer coordination and cooperation in major international organizations including the United Nations, and promote China-Cameroon and China-Africa relations.

Biya said since the establishment of diplomatic ties four decades ago bilateral relations have developed in an all-round manner with cooperation in all areas making new achievements continuously. He thanked the Chinese side for its long-term assistance and support, saying they made important contributions to the country's stability and development. China is Cameroon's old friend and reliable strategic partner, said Biya. He said Cameroon is ready to take the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to further strengthen high-level exchanges and friendly cooperation in all fields, so as to push bilateral relations to a new level.

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming, Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon Xue Jinwei and other officials attended the meeting.
