Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Holds Talks with Cameroon Prime Minister

On December 5, 2011, visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong held talks with Cameroon Prime Minister Philemon Yang in Yaounde.

Liu conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes from Premier Wen Jiabao to Philemon Yang. Liu said the frequent high-level contacts, deepened political trust and increased economic cooperation have shown the depth of relations between China and Cameroon. China would like to make joint efforts with Cameroon to enhance pragmatic cooperation in all areas and bring their friendly relations of cooperation to a new height.

Liu said the people-to-people and cultural exchanges have been important part of relations between the two countries. In recent years, the two sides have conducted exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of areas including art performance, language teaching, personal training and academic exchanges, she said. Cameroon has become one of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa with the most frequent and active humanities exchanges with China. Liu suggested the two sides implement the cultural agreement and encourage long-term university cooperation. China welcomes research institutions and scientists of Cameroon to take part in the China-Africa science and technology partnership program.

The Chinese State Councilor said that the agreement reached at the 4th ministerial conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum has been effectively implemented. China would make joint efforts with African nations including Cameroon to promote their new strategic partnership on the basis of political trust and equality, economic cooperation of mutual benefit and cultural exchanges, said Liu.

Philemon Yang asked Liu to convey his cordial greetings to Premier Wen Jiabao. He said that Cameroon and China share sincere and close partnership. The two countries have gained fruitful cooperation in economy, trade, health, agriculture, infrastructure as well as culture. Philemon Yang said his country is grateful to China for its long-time assistance and trade environment for Cameroon. Cameroon would like to work together with China to further cement their cooperative partnership guided by the principle of equality and mutual respect to bring benefits to both peoples, said the prime minister.

Following the talks, both sides attended the signing ceremony of cooperation agreements between the two countries.

Liu arrived in Yaounde on the evening of December 4. Prime Minister Philemon Yang, together with several ministers, welcomed Liu at the airport. Hundreds of people singing and dancing greeted the Chinese guest from afar.
