Li Zhanshu Meets with President Paul Biya of Cameroon

On March 23, 2018, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Li Zhanshu met with President Paul Biya of Cameroon at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Zhanshu expressed that in recent years, China-Cameroon relations have always maintained a sound and stable momentum with traditional friendship being inherited and developed. On March 22, President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with Mr. President, making a top-level design and charting the course for bilateral relations in the new era. China’s new NPC is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the Parliament of Cameroon. At present, the top priority is to push forward the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. The legislative bodies of the two countries should increase political support to each other, continuously optimize cooperation environment and consolidate the public opinion foundation for cooperation, so as to enable bilateral cooperation to better benefit the two peoples and make new and greater contributions to the development of bilateral relations.

Paul Biya congratulated Li Zhanshu on his election as Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee. He highly commended China’s policy towards Africa, and thanked China for its long-term and consistent support to Cameroon. He is willing to support the legislative bodies of the two countries in strengthening exchanges to promote the further development of bilateral relations.
