On June 12, 2014, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Denis Sassou-N'guesso of the Republic of Congo at the Great Hall of the People. The two heads of state commended the bilateral traditional friendship and fruits of cooperation, and determined to make joint efforts to promote the all-round development of the bilateral relations and to push ahead constantly the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.

Xi Jinping said, when I visited the Republic of Congo in March last year I was warmly received by the Congolese side and the Congolese people's friendly sentiment toward the Chinese people has been unforgettable even till now. I have reached important consensus with President Sassou on the establishment and development of the China-Congo comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring solidarity and mutual assistance, which is a common strategic choice by both sides. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, hence the two sides should make joint efforts and take over from the past and set a new course for the future so as to promote a faster and better development of the China-Congo relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should maintain close contacts between the two governments, parliaments and political parties to exchange experience in governance and administration of state affairs, maintain a high-level political mutual trust, strengthen communication and cooperation in major topics of common interest, and promote the international order and international system to develop towards a more fair and reasonable direction. Both sides should forge ahead, fully tap complementary advantages and growth potential, continue to advance the projects under the framework of a package of cooperation in "oil, credit and engineering", actively explore new modes of cooperation and make solid progress in joint venture banks and construction projects in Congo such as railway, ports and people's livelihood. The two sides should also facilitate personnel and cultural exchanges to enhance the friendly feelings.

Xi Jinping underlined that the Chinese side will actively implement the principles of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith" on China's relations with Africa which I proposed during my visit to Africa last year. At the same time, we support to solve African problems in the African way and we are willing to make greater contributions to helping Africa achieve peace, stability and development. The Republic of Congo has an important influence in Africa and President Sassou is a senior African statesman, therefore the Chinese side would like to join hands with the Congolese side to push ahead constantly the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.

Sassou said during the past 50 years since the establishment of the Congo-China diplomatic relationship, the two countries have enjoyed a solid foundation in the bilateral friendship and achieved fruitful results in cooperation. China has long been actively supporting and assisting the economic development of the Republic of Congo, which has helped to change the outlook of Congo, and Congo bears deep gratitude towards China. The Congolese side is dedicated to accelerating national development, hoping to expand cooperation with the Chinese side and continue to promote a package of cooperation projects. Congo welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in the development of sylvine resource, infrastructure construction and development of the special economic zones. The Congolese side is also willing to strengthen the communication and coordination with the Chinese side in UN affairs.

Sassou said that China's development has set a model for African countries. Congo has high expectations for the Africa-China relations, supports the cooperation initiatives under the framework of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, and hopes that Africa can realize peace, stability and development at an early date with the support and help of Chinese friends.

The two heads of state also jointly witnessed the signing of several documents on bilateral cooperation, which involve economy and trade, infrastructure construction, financing, banking, culture and other fields.

Prior to the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for President Sassou at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Xi Jinping's wife Mme. Peng Liyuan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Qiangba Puncog, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Qi Xuchun attended the ceremony. Tibetan student representatives of China-Congo Friendship Primary School in Yushu, Qinghai Province and children from Beijing together waved national flags of the two countries and bouquets welcoming Sassou's visit. In April, 2010, after a strong earthquake hit Yushu in Qinghai Province, the Republic of Congo donated to build a primary school in the disaster area, which has helped more than 300 Tibetan children return to school. The school is therefore named China-Congo Friendship Primary School.
