From June 27 to 29, 2017, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). During the visit, Special Representative Xu Jinghu met with President Joseph Kabila of the DRC, and held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Léonard She Okitundu of the DRC. H.E. Wang Tongqing, Chinese Ambassador to the DRC, was present.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that in recent years, China-DRC political mutual trust has been constantly enhanced, with fruitful outcomes yielding from practical cooperation, and constantly deepened understandings and friendship between the two peoples. China will continuously support the DRC in its national construction, and reinforce bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy and resource exploration, people-to-people and cultural engagement, so as to inject fresh impetus into China-DRC strategic partnership featuring mutual benefit and win-win results.

Joseph Kabila said that the DRC side is gratified with the development of bilateral relations and sincerely appreciates China for providing overall assistance to the country. Firmly adhering to one-China policy, the DRC government stands ready to further strengthen friendly cooperation with China in various fields. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Léonard She Okitundu expressed that the country thanks China for the valuable support to the DRC in the UN and other international stages and is willing to join efforts with China to further consolidate and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the visit, Special Representative Xu Jinghu also exchanged views with Coordinator of Follow-Up Mechanism of the Addis Ababa Framework Agreement Kalume of the DRC on the situation in the Great Lakes region and other topics.
