2019-06-23 10:32

On June 23, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso of the Republic of Congo in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 55 years ago, bilateral relations have withstood the test of ever-changing international situation. China and Congo can be called "all-weather friends". The two sides have always understood and supported each other, reflecting the particularity and high level of bilateral relations. We should put in place the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, implement key cooperation projects and steadily push forward practical cooperation in various fields.

Wang Yi said that China firmly upholds multilateralism and opposes all unilateral and bullying acts. China's adherence to this standpoint is not only to safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to safeguard international fairness and justice and common interests of the vast number of small and medium-sized countries. China will firmly stand on the side of the vast number of developing countries including Africa in multilateral affairs such as the United Nations.

Jean-Claude Gakosso said that the Congolese government speaks highly of the Chinese government's consistent effort to provide sincere help and assistance to African countries. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Congo and China. The Congolese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to push bilateral cooperation to a new level. The Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping is full of humanistic spirit and practical connotation, bringing real hope to many countries including Congo to eradicate poverty and achieve development. The Congolese side is willing to actively participate in cooperation of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Congo supports multilateralism, which is vital to small and medium-sized countries. We admire China for standing firmly on the forefront against unilateralism and will continue to stand firmly with China.

After the meeting, the two sides witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements together.
