Spokesman on eruption of Nyiragongo volcano in Democratic Republic of Congo

Q: Nyiragongo volcano in Democratic Republic of Congo erupted on 18 this month, causing tremendous damage to the neighbouring town of Goma. A large number of refugees have fled to the neighbouring country Rwanda. At present, some countries and international organizations have already provided Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda with humanitarian assistance. What's the reaction of the Chinese Government to this?

A: We are very much concerned over the disaster caused by the erupted volcano in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. President Jiang has sent a telegraph to President Kabila of Democratic Republic of Congo, expressing deep sympathy to the government and the people there and sincere condolence to the relatives of the victims. At the same time, the Chinese Government has decided to provide emergency material assistance worth of one million RMB yuan to the governments of Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda respectively.
