2003-07-02 00:00
Q: The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced the establishment of the transitional government on June 30th. What's your comment on that?

A: The establishment of the transitional government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) marks another significant achievement of the peace process and represents the good will of the government and various parties concerned to actively seek political reconciliation. We express our welcome to it, and sincerely hope that the people there can continue to push ahead the peace process under the leadership of the transitional government so as to achieve peace and development of the country at an early date.

The Chinese Government has all along been active in promoting the peace process of the DRC. We have sent our military observers, engineering corps and medical team as part of the MONUC (United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo) to the DRC and have participated in CIAT (Comit'e International Del'Accompagnement de la Transition de R.D.C). As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China stands ready to continue to play a constructive role for an early settlement of the DRC question.
