Cote d'Ivoire President Gbagbo Meets with Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun

On November 9, 2007, President of Cote d'Ivoire Laurent Gbagbo met in his Presidential Palace with visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun. During the meeting, Zhai said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 24 years ago, the two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation in all areas with sincere treatment and friendly assistance to each other. He said China appreciates Cote d'Ivoire's adherence to the one-China policy and is keen to enhance mutual political trust and pragmatic cooperation with Cote d'Ivoire to push bilateral ties to a new level.

Hailing the sound development of bilateral ties over the years, Gbagbo thanked China for its generous aid and its defense of Cote d'Ivoire's rights on various international occasions. Zhai arrived at Abidjan on the noon of November 8 for a working visit to Cote d'Ivoire. During the meeting, he met with Cote d'Ivoire's Prime Minister Guillaume Soro and held talks with Foreign Minister Youssouf Bakayoko. Both sides also signed agreements between the two governments on issues including economic and technical cooperation.
