Chinese Government's Special Envoy and Vice Chinese Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Visits Cote d'Ivoire and Holds Talks with Cote d'Ivoire's State and Foreign Affaires Minster Duncan

On June 23, 2011, at the invitation of the government of Cote d'Ivoire, the Chinese government's special envoy and Vice Chinese Foreign Minister Zhai Jun visited Cote d'Ivoire. Zhai also held talks with Cote d'Ivoire's State and Foreign Affaires Minster Duncan on the afternoon of the same day. Chinese Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire Wei Wenhua, Deputy Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the MFA Sun Baohong and Cote d'Ivoire's minister of construction, urban development and health attended the talks.

Prior to the talks, Zhai and Duncan, as representatives of the governments of China and Cote d'Ivoire respectively, signed a range of documents on economic and technological cooperation, China's aid to Cote d'Ivoire and other areas.

Zhai thanked for the Cote d'Ivoire government's warm hospitality, saying that Cote d'Ivoire is an important country in West Africa. China has been paying close attention to the developments of the situation in Cote d'Ivoire and actively supported the country's peace process. Bilateral relations are based on solidarity, mutual assistance and equality and pragmatic cooperation between the two countries benefits the two peoples. China is ready to work with Cote d'Ivoire to push the ties to a new level.

Duncan said Zhai's visit indicated again the profound friendship between both countries. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1983, bilateral political consultations have been deepened with frequent high-level exchanges of visits. The Chinese government firmly supports Cote d'Ivoire's post-crisis reconstruction and has offered enormous assistance to the country. Duncan expressed appreciation for the Chinese government's support and assistance on behalf of Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara. Cote d'Ivoire is ready to work with China to continue consolidating and enhancing friendly cooperative relations between the two countries.

Following the talks, Zhai donated some office supplies to Cote d'Ivoire's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Cote d'Ivoire.
