A: As a friendly country, China has followed closely the developments in Cote d'Ivoire. A peaceful and stable Cote d'Ivoire has not come by easily. Any attempt to undermine it is not in the interest of its people. The Chinese Government supports President Laurent Gbagbo's positive efforts after his assumption of office in safeguarding stability and promoting national reconciliation, believing that under his leadership, the Government and people of Cote d'Ivoire are capable of restoring stability and creating a favorable environment for the economic and social development of Cote d'Ivoire.
