On April 23, 2023, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing attended upon invitation the event of Expression of Gratitude on the Conclusion of the Peace Talks held by the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali awarded Special Envoy Xue Bing a certificate of appreciation and a peace sign made of a shell case, to thank China for making prominent contributions to promoting the realization of peace in Ethiopia. Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan was present.

The Ethiopian government hosted the event of expression of gratitude to review the experience and lessons of Ethiopia's independent resolution of domestic military conflicts through the mediation led by the African Union, and to express its gratitude to all relevant parties of the international community for their positive contributions. Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, High Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for the Horn of Africa and former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Kenya Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor, special envoys for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the United Nations, the United States and the European Union, and diplomatic envoys of other countries in Ethiopia, and others, were all present upon invitation at the event.
