Leaders of Equatorial Guinea Meet with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing

President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo met in the presidential office with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing on January 2, 2007.

Li said that the sound development momentum of bilateral relations, increasing political mutual trust and deepening cooperation in various fields between China and Equatorial Guinea have brought about tangible benefits to the people of the two countries. The series of measures including expanding assistance to Africa and the exemption of tariff and debt China launched at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation will create new opportunities to the cooperation between China and Equatorial Guinea within the framework of the organization. In recent years Equatorial Guinea has enjoyed rapid economic growth. China will encourage and support the Chinese businesses with competitiveness and sound reputation to invest in and conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with Equatorial Guinea.

Obiang said that Equatorial Guinea has special relations with China because there is no country other than China in the world providing Equatorial Guinea with so much help. China is an important partner and the best friend of Equatorial Guinea and the entire Africa. The Chinese businesses in Equatorial Guinea are pragmatic and reputed. The government and people of Equatorial Guinea welcome the participation of more Chinese businesses in the country's construction. Concerning some claim that China plunders resources and practices new colonialism in Africa, Obiang pointed out that China sincerely helps other country no matter the country is big or small, strong or weak, rich or not in resources. China has brought about tangible benefits to the African people.

On the same day Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea Ricardo Mangue Obama Nfube met with Li Zhaoxing. The two leaders attended the ceremony on the completion of the Malabo TV Center constructed with the assistance of China.
