I.Political Relations
The People's Republic of China and the Republic of Guinea established diplomatic relations on October 4, 1959. Guinea was the first sub-Saharan country to establish diplomatic ties with China. Over the years, the bilateral relationships has progressed smoothly. In November 2016, China and Guinea established comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
In September 2024, President of Guinea, H.E. Mamady Doumbouya attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
II.Economic and Trade Relations, Economic and Technical Cooperation.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China has assisted to construct projects such as the People's Palace, the Kinkon Hydropower Station, and the Tinkisso Hydropower Station in Guinea. In November 1995, the two countries established a Joint Economic and Trade commission. In September 2015, the Kaleta Hydropower Station, was successfully completed and began generating electricity, significantly alleviating Guinea's power shortage.
In July 1988, the two countries signed Trade Agreement between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Guinea. In 2023, the bilateral trade volume reached approximately 9.05 billion USD, with a year-on-year increase of 34.2%. China's exports amounted to 2.65 billion USD, while imports reached 6.41 billion USD.
III. Exchanges and Cooperation in Cultural, Educational and Other Fields
China and Guinea have signed cultural cooperation agreement. Cultural and artistic groups from both countries have exchanged visits on multiple occasions.
Since 1973, China has been offering scholarships to Guinean students. In 2023, there were 467 Guinean students studying in China.
Since June 1968, China has been sending medical teams to Guinea. To date, a total of 30 teams, comprising 725 personnel, have been dispatched. The China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, was officially inaugurated in April 2012. In August 2023, The second phase of the hospital was put into use.
