On February 14, 2011, Guinean President Alpha Conde and Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana met respectively with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Conakry, the capital of Guinea.

While meeting with Foreign Minister Yang, Conde said Guinea values the traditional friendship with China, is grateful to China's assistance to Guinea under bilateral frameworks and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and appreciates the contribution China has made to the peace and common development of the world as well as the recovery of world economy from the global financial crisis.

He reiterated Guinea's adherence to the one-China policy, and said the country is embarking on the road of national rejuvenation and is willing to learn from the experience of China's reform and opening up drive. Guinea is eager to get help from China, he added. Guinea hopes to further expand cooperation with China in such fields as water resources management, electricity generation and infrastructure construction, said the president, who also welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Guinea.

Also in a meeting with the visiting Chinese foreign minister, Guinea's Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana thanked China for sending medical teams to Guinea, helping Guinea train personnel in various sectors and building a series of aid projects in the African country. The Guinean government and people will never forget the indelible contributions made by China to Guinea's economic and social development. Fofana said many things are waiting to be done in his country and Guinea expects to carry out all-around and mutually beneficial cooperation with China on the basis of self-reliance.

For his part, the Chinese foreign minister said as early as fifty years ago when the movements for national independence and liberation in Asia and Africa were vigorously surging forward, the Chinese and Guineans forged profound friendship in the hard struggle together. China-Guinea traditional friendly and cooperative relations have been enjoying healthy and stable development throughout a period of over half a century, featuring political equality, sincere friendship, economic mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Yang said China has always been supporting Guinea's strive for peace and stability, and offering assistance within its ability for Guinea in social and economic development. He said enterprises from both sides have been advancing their mutually beneficial cooperation and carrying out multi-form cooperation in such areas as telecommunications, infrastructure construction, among others.

Yang said Guinea has successfully completed a political transition, and under the leadership of President Conde, the country will surely make more achievements in social and economic development and in realizing national rejuvenation. He noted that China is willing to make joint efforts with the new Guinean government to consolidate traditional friendship, expand pragmatic cooperation and push bilateral relations to a new height. China is ready to continue encouraging and supporting the enterprises of the two countries to expand and deepen cooperation, explore new cooperation models and actively participate in the recovery plan proposed by the new Guinean government.

On the same day, Yang also met with his Guinean counterpart Edouard Niankoye Lama. Both sides agreed to enhance friendly exchanges, build up political trust, deepen economic and trade cooperation and promote common development. They also pledged to increase humanities exchanges, expand the public support for China-Guinea friendship, keep closer international cooperation and strengthen coordination on the UN Millennium Development Goals, climate change and other issues. Both sides also agreed to boost cooperation within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and promote the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.

Yang arrived in Conakry on February 13 for an official visit to Guinea.
