On September 26, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi presided over the Foreign Ministers' Meeting between China and African members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) at the UN headquarters in New York. Foreign Ministers of the current UNSC African members including Foreign Minister Marcel Amon-Tanoh of Côte d'Ivoire, Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue of Equatorial Guinea, and Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor of South Africa, and Foreign Ministers of the incoming UNSC African members including Foreign Minister Kalla Ankourao of Niger and Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui of Tunisia attended the meeting.

Wang Yi expressed, China has always stood firmly with African brothers, whether in the past, at present or in the future. The world today faces unprecedented and major changes unseen in a century. The most significant change is that a large number of developing countries, such as China and many African countries, have entered the fast lane of development and progress. Wang Yi noted, when the People's Republic of China restored its lawful seat in the UN, it relied on its African brothers and developing countries. Since the first day that China became a member state of the UNSC, African brothers have been our most significant and trusted partners. Reflecting Africa's appeals, addressing its concerns and safeguarding its interests are among the central focuses of China's work in the UNSC. Whatever African brothers expect China to do, and whatever is good for African countries, the Chinese side will devote every effort to it as if it were its own. Facing the new situation, China is willing to work with African countries at the UNSC to strengthen unity and coordination, and safeguard common interests, in a bid to make new and greater contributions to promoting world peace and development.
