On October 12, 2020, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Xianfa was invited to attend the reception celebrating the 52nd anniversary of Equatorial Guinea's independence and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Equatorial Guinea at the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in China.

In his speech, Liu Xianfa congratulated Equatorial Guinea on the 52nd anniversary of its independence and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with China. Liu said, in the past half century, despite the ever-changing international situation, the friendship between China and Equatorial Guinea has grown stronger. Facing the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have cooperated with each other to tide over the crisis. At present, the international situation is undergoing profound and complex changes. The spread of COVID-19 adds more threats and challenges to the international community. In this September, President Xi Jinping attended a series of high-level events marking the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and delivered a series of important speeches, which have injected fresh impetus to global cooperation against COVID-19, forged new consensus for the reform of the global governance system and offered new solutions for promoting global economic recovery. China is ready to work with African countries including Equatorial Guinea to resolutely safeguard multilateralism, support the central role of the United Nations, oppose unilateralism and hegemony, speed up the implementation of achievements reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity Against COVID-19, so as to jointly win the battle against the COVID-19, promote the post-pandemic common development, and benefit both Chinese and African peoples.

Equatorial Guinea's ambassador to China German Ekua Sima Abaga said in his speech that the cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and China is a model of South-South cooperation. Equatorial Guinea thanks China for its strong support and assistance in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, human resources training and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Equatorial Guinea is willing to work with China to firmly support each other, deepen cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road and FOCAC, and jointly open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
