On July 20, 2006, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Pastor Micha Ondo Bile and his delegation, who were on a transit visit to Beijing.

Li indicated China-Equatorial Guinea relations have seen steady and sound progress since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 36 years ago. The visit by Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to China last October produced positive results and helped speed up the development of bilateral ties. He stated that China appreciates the Equatorial Guinean government's long-standing adherence to the one-China policy, and will work with Equatorial Guinea to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders to boost bilateral relations and cement mutually beneficial cooperation.

Agreeing with Li's views, Micha said his government attaches great importance to bilateral ties, expressing hope that the two sides join hands to fully implement the achievements reached during his president's China visit last year. Micha reiterated his government's adherence to the one-China policy and expressed hope that China will achieve reunification at an early date.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the UN reform, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and other issues of common concern.
