On the afternoon of October 10, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met in Macao with Prime Minister Baciro Dja of Guinea Bissau, who was in China to attend the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Guinea Bissau have always respected each other and treated each other as equals. China respects the people of Guinea Bissau for embarking on a development path suitable to their own national conditions, and is willing to maintain high-level exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust and cement practical cooperation with Guinea Bissau. It is hoped that the Guinea Bissau side can give full play to its advantages as a Portuguese-speaking country, make good use of Macao as a service platform for economic and trade cooperation, and deeply push forward practical cooperation between itself and China and even the west African region and China in fields with advantageous resources, so as to better drive respective development and bring benefits to people of the two countries and the region.

Baciro Dja said that with mutual respect, Guinea Bissau and China are sincere friends sharing weal and woe. China has offered long-term and precious support and assistance to Guinea Bissau's national liberation and economic and social development, and has never attached any political strings to its assistance to African countries. Guinea Bissau is grateful for such gesture and has full confidence in the prospect of bilateral cooperation. The Guinea Bissau side is willing to, together with China, intensify high-level exchanges, enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, and strengthen practical cooperation within the frameworks of Forum on Africa-China Cooperation and Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between Portuguese-speaking Countries and China, so as to push forward bilateral relations and the relationship between China and the Economic Community of West African States, Portuguese-speaking countries and Africa.
