Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo Meets with Former President of Mauritius Offmann

On September 5, 2007, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo met with Karl Auguste Offmann, former President of Mauritius, who is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and other issues of common concern.

Dai said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation in all areas. During Prime Minister Ramgoolam's visit to China this July, the leaders of both countries reached important consensus on further deepening bilateral ties and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in bilateral trade and other areas. The Chinese government and leaders have always attached great importance to developing friendly cooperative relations with Mauritius and are ready to make joint efforts with the country to push the new type of comprehensive cooperative partnership of mutual trust and mutual benefit to a new level.

Offmann thanked for China's long-standing assistance and support to his country, expressing delight with the positive progress made in bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation. He said that sitting on the sea route between Africa and Asia, Mauritius has a unique geographical location and it can play a linking role in promoting Africa-China friendship and cooperation.
