Wen Jiabao Holds Talks with His Mozambican Counterpart Ali

On June 17, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with his Mozambican counterpart Aires Bonifacio Baptista Ali at the Great Hall of the People.

Wen said China and Mozambique have treated each other with mutual respect, mutual trust and equality and firmly supported each other's core interests and major concerns since diplomatic ties were forged 35 years ago. The traditional friendship between both peoples has been consolidated and deepened. China attaches great importance to developing ties with Mozambique and hopes to maintain high-level exchanges with the country and enhance consultations at various levels, Wen said. He said China is ready to keep closer coordination with Mozambique within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and other international organizations including the United Nations and push exchanges and cooperation in all areas for new progress.

The Chinese premier said China had offered economic and technological aid to Mozambique with no political strings attached over the years. He pledged China would help the country improve its people's living standards and its capacity of self-development within China's capacity. Wen said China would work with Mozambique to tap their respective advantages, expand trade and investment cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcome. China encourages its competent and reputable companies to invest in Mozambique, calling on both sides to explore cooperation in energy, agriculture and mineral resources exploitation.

Ali appreciated China's support and help to his country in its national independence cause and country building. He said the Mozambican people will never forget the fraternal friendship of Chinese people. He told Wen that Mozambique attaches great importance to its relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. Mozambique is ready to keep closer high-level exchanges, deepen and expand cooperation in all areas with China and push forward the traditional friendly relations between both countries. He invited more Chinese companies to invest in his country. Mozambique is committed to realizing lasting peace, stability and development of the country and hopes that China will continue to actively support and participate in Mozambique's economic and social development. Mozambique is ready to work with China to well implement various measures reached at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and welcomes Chinese businesses to invest in Mozambique, he added.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the economic and technological cooperation agreement between the two governments.

Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Xie Zhenhua, Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Tian Guangfeng and other officials attended the above activities.
