On August 24, 2017, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong paid a courtesy call on President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique when attending the ministerial follow-up meeting of Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on such topics as the development of China-Mozambique relations and bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially advancing the implementation of outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Mozambique.

On August 23, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Oldemiro Baloi of Mozambique.
