On July 25, 2023 local time, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who was not in Johannesburg, had a phone call with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, who attended the Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in Johannesburg.

Wang Yi first conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to President Ramaphosa. Wang Yi said that this year marks the "Year of South Africa" of BRICS. China supports South Africa in hosting a successful BRICS Summit to be held next month. The Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security has also laid the political foundation for the summit. Wang Yi expressed his belief that under the leadership of President Ramaphosa, South Africa will achieve success in four aspects. First, make good preparations for the summit to ensure its success and inject new impetus into BRICS cooperation. Second, actively coordinate each party's position, and reach consensus on the development and growth of BRICS, to open up new prospects for the BRICS mechanism. Third, make plans for important high-level exchanges between China and South Africa and bring the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership to a new height. Fourth, carry out the China-Africa high-level dialogue, strengthen China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, and guide the building of a China-Africa community with a shared future to achieve new progress.

Wang Yi stressed that China and South Africa enjoy relations featuring "comrades and brothers". No matter how the international landscape evolves, China will stand firmly with South Africa and support South Africa in accelerating development and revitalization and in playing a greater role on the regional and international stages.

Ramaphosa asked Wang Yi to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, saying that South Africa attaches great importance to its relations with China and hopes to strengthen friendly cooperation between the two countries in various fields. He thanked China for providing valuable support to South Africa in hosting the BRICS Summit, and South Africa is well prepared to ensure that the upcoming BRICS Summit will be a complete success. South Africa also hopes to take the summit as an opportunity to work for greater progress in South Africa-China relations and Africa-China relations.

During his visit to South Africa, Wang Yi also held talks with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor.
