Wang Yi: Ensure the Success of UN Summits, Maintain World Peace and Promote Global Development

On July 31, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting Sam Kutesa, President of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly and Foreign Minister of Uganda.

Wang Yi noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. The series of summits to be held in the UN in September will exert far-reaching in fluence on international arena and play a leading role in global development and cooperation. Chinese leaders will attend the series of summits and work with leaders of other countries to reaffirm the commitments of international community to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and discuss how to enhance the core role of the UN in global governance under the new circumstances. Mr. President shoulders heavy responsibilities, and the international community, especially the developing nations, places great expectations on you. China is ready to strengthen strategic coordination with you and join efforts with you to ensure the success of the series of summits, maintain world peace and promote global development.

Sam Kutesa expressed that China has demonstrated important leadership in world affairs, especially in cooperation with developing countries. They look forward to Chinese leaders’ presence at the UN summits in September. They will keep close communication and cooperation with the Chinese side to ensure the series of summits a complete success.

Both sides also exchanged views on the post-2015 development agenda, climate change and other topics.
