Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Visits Uganda

From March 15 to 16, 2017, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu visited Uganda, during which she met respectively with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa of Uganda, exchanging views on China-Uganda relations and the situation in South Sudan.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that China and Uganda enjoy profound traditional friendship and solid political mutual, and achieve fruitful achievements from practical cooperation in various fields. China is willing to make joint efforts with Uganda to well implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and comprehensively advance friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, so as to constantly elevate China-Uganda relations to new highs. Special Representative Xu Jinghu briefed Uganda on relevant situation about her previous visits to regional countries regarding the South Sudan issue, appreciated the contributions made by Uganda to advancing the peace process in South Sudan as an important neighboring country of South Sudan as well as a member of Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and stressed that China stands ready to make joint efforts with Uganda and other relevant parties to promote South Sudan to achieve peace, security, stability and development at an early date.

President Yoweri Museveni and Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa expressed that Uganda thanked China for providing precious support and selfless assistance to Uganda's economic and social development for a long time. Uganda is willing to constantly deepen political mutual trust and advance practical cooperation with China. Highly appreciating China's active role in the South Sudan issue, Uganda stands ready to, together with the international community, including China, push forward the restoration of peace and stability in South Sudan at an early date.

During the visit, Special Representative Xu Jinghu also gave an interview to Chinese and foreign media.
