On February 9 local time, when meeting with the press after holding talks with President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe in Harare, State Councilor Yang Jiechi told the reporters that the development of China-Africa relations can be summarized as the “three models”, namely models of equality and mutual trust, models of cooperation for win-win result as well as models of solidarity and coordination.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that China-Africa friendship enjoys a time-honored history and now is faced with new opportunities for development. China-Africa relations can be summarized into “three models”:

First, China-Africa relations are regarded as the model of equality and mutual trust among countries. The friendship and mutual trust between China and Africa have withstood the test of time and international vicissitudes, and both sides have become good brothers sharing weal and woe and community of common destiny that stands through thick and thin.

Second, China-Africa relations are model of win-win cooperation among countries. China-Africa trade volume exceeded 220 billion USD last year, and China’s accumulated investment in Africa totaled 30 billion USD, enjoying a rapid development. China will actively participate in the national industrialization process of African countries, and improve people’s livelihood and provide more job opportunities for Africa through practical cooperation, so as to help Africa achieve independent and sustainable development.

Third, China-Africa relations are model of solidarity and coordination among countries. Further enhancement of solidarity and coordination between China and Africa conduces to promoting the international balance of power towards the direction of cooperation in a more balanced manner.

Yang Jiechi noted that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and the sixth Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC will be held in South Africa. China will earnestly implement the Africa policy featuring sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith, and the correct viewpoint of righteousness and benefit put forward by President Xi Jinping. China will take the preparation for this Ministerial Conference as an opportunity to work with Africa to blueprint the China-Africa cooperation in various fields in the next three years, so as to push forward China-Africa relationship for more fruitful results.
