Xi Jinping Meets with President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe

On April 23 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Jakarta with President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe.

Xi Jinping pointed out that you paid a successful state visit to China last year, and we together made a long-term plan for the development of China-Zimbabwe relations, agreeing to forge China-Zimbabwe relations into good friends, good partners and good brothers enjoying equal treatment and mutual support as well as seeking mutual benefit, win-win results and common development. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, and I will join hands with you to push bilateral relations to new highs. Both sides should enhance bilateral high-level exchanges, consolidate bilateral traditional friendship and earnestly carry out all the consensus reached by the two countries. China backs Zimbabwe's efforts in developing economy and improving people's livelihood, and will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises and financial institutions to explore financing approaches featuring mutual benefit and reciprocity with the Zimbabwean side thus to provide financing support to its infrastructure construction benefiting its national economy and people's livelihood. China will also participate in the construction of Zimbabwe's special economic zones and promote bilateral cooperation in such fields as agriculture, processing, manufacturing, education and health care. Both sides should boost cooperation and coordination in the UN Security Council reform, the post-2015 global development agenda, climate change and other issues and maintain common rights and interests of developing countries.

Robert Mugabe expressed that Zimbabwe cherishes the profound traditional friendship with China forged since the anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism era, and is grateful for China's valuable support to its maintaining of political independence and promoting of economic development. Zimbabwe hopes to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with China thus to help its own economic and social development.

Xi Jinping stressed that as China-Africa cooperation is entering into a new historical era, China will, by upholding the concept of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith as well as the correct viewpoint of righteousness and benefit and taking the preparation of the sixth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as an opportunity, comprehensively deepen China-Africa friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation and constantly push forward the in-depth development of the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership to benefit both peoples.

Robert Mugabe agreed to this and thanked China for its tremendous contribution to the peace and development cause in Africa.
