Yang Jiechi Meets with Guests from Chad, Sudan and Gambia

On July 28, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi respectively met at Zhongnanhai with Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad, Assistant to the President and Deputy Chair of Higher Committee for Supervising Sudanese-Chinese Relations Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz of Sudan and Foreign Minister Neneh MacDouall-Gaye of Gambia.

Yang Jiechi welcomed representatives from various African countries to attend the Sherpa Meeting on Implementing Outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Johannesburg Summit in China. Yang Jiechi said that the ten major China-Africa cooperation plans proposed by President Xi Jinping at the Johannesburg Summit last year have depicted a new blueprint for China-Africa friendly cooperation. At present, the summit outcomes are undergoing comprehensive implementation. It is hoped that through this Sherpa Meeting, China and Africa can enhance communication and coordination, and advance the implementation of the summit outcomes for more progress on the basis of existing results, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

When meeting with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Yang Jiechi said that attaching high importance to developing China-Chad relations, China is willing to work with Chad to earnestly implement the consensus reached by both heads of state, maintain high-level exchanges, expand cooperation scale, lift cooperation level and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs. China appreciates Chad's positive contribution to advancing China-Africa friendly cooperation as the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU).

Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed that the AU and all African countries, satisfied with outcomes achieved from Africa-China cooperation, highly appreciate the ten major cooperation plans proposed by President Xi Jinping, and thank China's support and assistance to peace, stability and development in Africa. The Sherpa meeting this time is utterly important. The African side will strengthen coordination with China to promote the implementation of outcomes from the Johannesburg Summit. Chad treasures its friendly relations with China and is willing to further develop friendly cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

When meeting with Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz, Yang Jiechi said that both heads of state jointly announced to establish a strategic partnership last September, ushering China-Sudan relations into a new development stage. China firmly supports Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is willing to work with Sudan to deepen traditional friendship, consolidate and continuously expand bilateral practical cooperation, so as to open up a new prospect of China-Sudan friendly cooperation.

Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz expressed that Sudan and China enjoy a long-standing friendship which is deep-rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. Bilateral relations are close and firm. The two countries are good friends and good partners that share mutual support on major issues. Sudan stands ready to, together with China, deepen friendship, expand practical cooperation and actively promote the implementation of Johannesburg Summit outcomes.

When meeting with Neneh MacDouall-Gaye, Yang Jiechi said that since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gambia this March, bilateral relations have enjoyed smooth development. China is willing to work with Gambia to further enhance high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, conduct closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and strengthen cooperation in international affairs, so as to push for continuous and in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Neneh MacDouall-Gaye expressed that China is a real friend and friendly partner of Gambia. Firmly adhering to the One-China policy, Gambia is ready to strengthen cooperation in various fields with China within bilateral and the FOCAC frameworks, and jointly safeguard rights and interests of developing countries in international affairs.
