Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Meets with President Idriss Deby of Chad

On September 6, 2017, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu, who was in Paris for the international round table meeting on financing Chad’s National Development Plan 2017-2021, met with President Idriss Deby of Chad.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu conveyed warm regards and best wishes from President Xi Jinping to President Idriss Deby, and spoke positively of the Chadian government’s and people’s remarkable achievements in the national construction and their significant role in affairs concerning regional peace and security in recent years. Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that China-Chad relations have developed rapidly in an all-round manner since the resumption of diplomatic relations. Since 2015, President Xi Jinping has met with Your Excellency President three times, mapping out a blueprint and charting the course for development of the bilateral relations. Attaching great importance to developing relations with Chad, the Chinese side is willing to join hands with the Chadian side to well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, expand cooperation in various fields, and help the Chadian side carry out the National Development Plan 2017-2021, so as to fulfill Chad’s Vision 2030.

President Idriss Deby asked Special Representative Xu Jinghu to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping, and thanked the Chinese government for sending a delegation to the round table meeting. Idriss Deby said that China is a great friend of Chad and Africa, and China and Chad enjoy sincere and friendly relations. In recent years, he has met with President Xi Jinping for several times, which has vigorously advanced the development of China-Chad relations. The Chinese side has actively supported Chad’s economic and social development, and the Ndjamena Refinery jointly built by the two countries has helped Chad realize energy independence. I am fully confident in the prospect of China-Chad relations, and would continuously be committed to deepening bilateral friendly cooperation in all fields.

After the meeting, Special Representative Xu Jinghu gave an interview to Chad’s national television station.

From September 7 to 8, on behalf of the Chinese side, Special Representative Xu Jinghu attended in Paris the international round table meeting on financing Chad’s National Development Plan 2017-2021, and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, briefing on the achievements of cooperation between China and Chad and cooperation plan for the next phase.
