Li Keqiang Meets with Vice President James Wani Igga of South Sudan

In the afternoon of July 1, 2014, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Premier Li Keqiang met with Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) James Wani Igga of South Sudan at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai.

Li Keqiang expressed that South Sudan is China's good friend and good partner in Africa. The Chinese government supports the South Sudanese people to choose the development path according to their own national conditions, and stands ready to provide help and support within its capacity to South Sudan. The Chinese side appreciates the efforts made by the South Sudanese government to solve internal crisis in a peaceful way and the mediating role played by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) of East Africa in this regard, and hopes South Sudan realize national reconciliation, security and stability at an early date. We are also ready to continue to play a constructive role in promoting South Sudan and Sudan to achieve peace and development. The Chinese government encourages the two countries to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, agriculture, infrastructure construction, energy resources and so on, and hopes that the South Sudanese government will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese enterprises and personnel in South Sudan.

Li Keqiang pointed out, under the new situation, the Chinese side will adhere to the concept of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith" to treat Africa sincerely and equally, to enhance solidarity and mutual trust, to jointly seek inclusive development, and to innovate practical cooperation. Both sides should push forward cooperation in the six major fields of industry, finance, poverty reduction, ecological environment protection, people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as peace and security, jointly construct the three networks of railways, highways and regional aviation in Africa, and create an upgraded version of China-Africa cooperation, so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.

Wani expressed that South Sudan and China enjoy a profound friendship, and that the country thanks for the long-term precious support given by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government for promoting peace, stability, and economic development in South Sudan. East African countries are deeply encouraged by the framework for cooperation with Africa raised by Premier Li Keqiang during his recent visit to Africa, and are willing to work with China to jointly advance construction of such transportation networks as regional railways. South Sudan will continue to commit itself to realizing peace and reconciliation, and will ensure the safety of Chinese enterprises and personnel in South Sudan.

Wang Jiarui, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was present at the meeting.
