Wang Yi: China Sincerely Hopes for an Early, Comprehensive and Proper Settlement of South Sudan Issue

On September 22, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chairman Dhieu Mathok Diing Wol of the External Relations Committee of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition and his delegation in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that China always adheres to a just and objective position on the South Sudan issue and appeals to both sides of the conflict to effectively implement the ceasefire agreement and settle the divergence in a peaceful way. China unswervingly maintains peace and stability in South Sudan and the whole region, has constantly and actively participated in mediating the South Sudan issue, sincerely hopes for an early, comprehensive and proper settlement of the South Sudan issue, and will continue making efforts to this end.

Wang Yi stressed that China is a friend of all people of South Sudan. China has always been focusing on the national long-term development and people's fundamental interests of South Sudan in its cooperation with the country. China will continue its efforts to help the people of South Sudan overcome difficulties. Meanwhile, China hopes that both sides of the conflict in South Sudan will effectively protect the safety of China-funded institutions and personnel in South Sudan.

Mathok highly appreciated China's position and thanked China for its great contributions to promoting peace and development in South Sudan. He said that the opposition of South Sudan is willing to solve the South Sudan issue through peace talks and to take measures to ensure the safety of Chinese enterprises and personnel.

On the same day, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming held talks with Mathok and his delegation.
