Wang Yi: Implement the Agreement on Resolution of Conflict and Promote Peace Process in South Sudan

2015-09-30 14:52

On September 29 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the working meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General at the UN headquarters in New York of the US. When discussing the South Sudanese issue, Wang Yi noted that under the joint efforts of the international community, both sides in South Sudan signed the agreement on the resolution of the conflict not long ago, making an important step in the peace process and easing the tension, which is gratified. It still has a long way to go to push both sides in South Sudan to implement the agreement. The countries in the region have a better understanding of themselves and should bring the important mediation role of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Union (AU) into full play. The five permanent members of the Security Council should intensify communication, keep solidarity, and send clear signal on supporting the IGAD in mediating the issue, so as to join efforts to push forward the peace process in South Sudan.
