On August 4, 2011, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha in Tirana.

Yang said that both peoples enjoyed profound traditional friendship. In the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century, both sides face major opportunities to further the ties and should make full use of the traditional friendship and economic and trade complementarities to enhance pragmatic cooperation in all areas for the benefit of both peoples. The Chinese foreign minister hoped China and Albania will work together to make their bilateral relations a role model for China to follow when developing ties with other Balkan countries. China thanks Albania for its historic contribution to restoring New China's legitimate seat in the UN 40 years ago and appreciates Albania's adherence to the one-China policy, Yang said. China supports Albania's efforts to join the European integration.

Yang said that China attached great importance to its friendly cooperation with Albania. He hoped the two countries would strengthen economic and trade cooperation while maintaining high-level exchanges. "China welcomes Albanian enterprises to actively develop the Chinese market, and we are going to provide conveniences for niche products of Albania to enter the Chinese market," Yang said. He hoped that the two countries will enhance cooperation on energy and mineral development, infrastructure construction, household appliance, textiles, telecommunications and tourism to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcome.

Berisha said China had played an important role in the UN Security Council after its legitimate seat was restored, which had been of great significance, not only for China, but also for world peace and stability. China has also made great contributions to the international community in terms of economic growth and poverty reduction and China's economic boom has become a big event in the world. In recent years, bilateral ties have maintained a sound momentum of development and the Albanian side highly praises China's long-standing help. The Albanian side holds that the development of bilateral ties is of great significance to Albania and hopes to uplift bilateral ties to a higher level based on the Joint Statement between the two countries. He said increasing mutual trust between the two countries is conducive to further consolidating the traditional ties. He said Albania welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Albania's energy, hydropower, mining and port areas, and that the country was willing to further improve the investment environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in more favorable conditions. "Albania will resolutely pursue the one-China policy, which is the political foundation of developing bilateral relations," Berisha said.
