Premier Zhu Rongji Met With Bosnia-Herzegovina Foreign Minister

On the afternoon of June 26, 2002, Premier Zhu Rongji met with Bosnia-Herzegovina Foreign Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija and his party, who are on an official visit, to China at Ziguanggem, Zhongnanhai.

Premier Zhu welcomed Lagumdzija for his visit. He said that dispite the remote distance between China and Bosnia-Herzegovina, strengthening cooperation and friendship is the common wish of both peoples and furthering bilateral friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in every field is in the fundamental interest of both sides. He said that China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the development model Bosnia-Herzegovina has chosen, and understood its bid to integrate into the process of the European integration. China would continue its efforts to further expand cooperation with Bosnia-Herzegovina in all fields in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits.

Referring to bilateral trade and economic relations, Zhu said the relevant departments of the two governments should enhance exchanges and cooperation, give full play to the role of the joint economic and trade committees of the two governments and encourage businesses to increase understanding and explore ways of cooperation, so as to fast track bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Lagumdzija spoke highly of China's reform and opening-up drive and the great achievements made in the drive. He said that Bosnia-Herzegovina has traditional friendly relations with China and China has always supported Bosnia-Herzegovina in its efforts of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as in its economic reconstruction and development. He said that his country hopes to further the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries, while on the Taiwan question, Bosnia-Herzegovina would continue to adhere to the One China principled position.
