Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto of Hungary

On September 23, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto of Hungary on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Hungary diplomatic relationship and is an important and memorable year. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Hungary relations have always maintained a momentum of vigorous development. China will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in a few days. China has made remarkable achievements in the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics while Hungary is also actively exploring the development path conforming to its national conditions. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Hungarian side, enhance exchanges and mutual learning, constantly deepen mutual trust, and strengthen all-round cooperation. The Budapest-Belgrade railway is a landmark project of the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative and cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries (17+1). It is hoped that both sides will make joint efforts to speed up the project. The Chinese side is also willing to work with the Hungarian side to promote China-Europe relations for new development in the new era.

Peter Szijjarto expressed his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He said, Hungary and China developed relations in the same year when the People's Republic of China was founded. Hungary was one of the first countries to recognize the People's Republic of China and established diplomatic relationship with China, showing that Hungary-China relations are based on mutual trust and mutual respect. The current Hungary-China relations enjoy really sound development. The Hungarian side looks forward to further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The Hungarian side will continue to actively participate in the "17+1" cooperation and play an active role in promoting Europe-China relations.
