Joint Commnique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People's Republic of China and the Repulbic of Macedonia

The Government of the People?s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, in accordance with the interests and aspirations of the two peoples, have decided to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level as from October 12, 1993.

The two Governments have agreed to develop their friendly relations of co-operation in conformity with the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other?s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence.

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia recognizes the Government of the People?s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China, and Taiwan as an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. The Government of the Republic of Macedonia affirms that it will not establish any form of official relations with Taiwan.

The Government of the People?s Republic of China supports the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in its endeavor to safeguard national independence and promote economic development.

The Governments of the two countries have agreed to provide all necessary assistance for the performance of the functions of their respective diplomatic missions on the basis of mutual benefit and in accordance with international practice.
