On February 5th 2004, Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo met with Macedonian Vice Foreign Minister Fuad Hasanovic.

Vice Minister Dai expressed his satisfaction with the development of China-Macedonia relations, saying that China has reasons to believe that the relations will be even better in the future. He also expressed China's appreciation for the Macedonian government's commitments to adhering to the "one-China" policy and refraining from any forms of official relations with Taiwan. Dai said that the Chinese government respects the independent sovereignty and territorial integrity of Macedonia, shows understanding for its option for European integration and is looking forward to the continuous development of Macedonian domestic situation toward stability.

Hasanovic said that Macedonia deems China its great friend and stands ready to make joint efforts with China to bring about further development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields. He added that Macedonia adheres to the "one-China" principle, respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and opposes any actions taken by the Taiwan Authorities to change the status quo, saying that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. He emphasized that this is not only the stance of the Macedonian government but also the consensus of the country's ruling and opposition parties.

The two sides also briefed each other on their respective domestic and foreign policies and on issues related to the cooperation between the two foreign ministries.
