On September 10, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Dalian with Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of New Champions 2009, also known as the Summer Davos.

The relationship between China and Macedonia has developed smoothly over the past years, Wen said. China respects the development road chosen by the Macedonian people and is ready to enhance personnel exchanges and expand pragmatic cooperation with Macedonia on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, so as to enrich the bilateral traditional friendship.

Gruevski said that the two countries have shown mutual understanding and trust for each other. Macedonia highly appreciates China's positive role on the world stage and will firmly adhere to the one-China policy. Macedonia will commit itself to enhancing friendly cooperative relations with China. Chinese enterprises are always welcome to invest in sectors of energy, tourism, and infrastructure construction in Macedonia.
