On March 29, 2012, visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov in Skopje, capital of Macedonia.

Hui first conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes of President Hu Jintao to President Gjorge Ivanov. He said that although China and Macedonia have different sizes, social systems and cultural traditions, the friendship between the peoples of the two countries are solid. He said that China and Macedonia understand and support each other on their core interests and major concerns, and their cooperation has moved forward across the board since the normalization of bilateral relations. Hui said China appreciates Macedonia's firm adherence to the one-China policy and China respects the development path that Macedonia has chosen according to its own national conditions.

Hui said "the core task to promote bilateral relations for the moment is to turn this good political relationship into tangible results of mutually beneficial cooperation." He said pragmatic cooperation between China and Macedonia in various sectors would be very promising. "I believe that we can enrich our cooperation and push it to a new level through our joint efforts," Hui said. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Macedonia. By then, Hui believed, that bilateral ties between the two countries will get a stronger momentum for development.

Ivanov asked Hui to convey his cordial greetings and good wishes to President Hu Jintao. He told Hui that Macedonia will stick to the one-China policy. He spoke highly of China's development achievements and expressed thanks for China's strong support for Macedonia. "We are pleased to have a friend like China," he said.

He said Macedonia, like China, values the role of the people-to-people exchanges in boosting bilateral relations. "Macedonia is willing to work with China to push the cooperation to a new high and to strive for a more inclusive world," Ivanov said.

Both sides also exchanged views on how to handle ethnic affairs and promote national unity and harmony.

On the same day, Hui also held talks with Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Peshevski on bilateral ties and pragmatic cooperation. After their meeting, Hui and Peshevski witnessed signing of four bilateral agreements on cooperation in economy, technology and agriculture.
