On September 2, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Victor-Viorel Ponta of Romania at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that speaking of China-Romania relations, we will first think of "friendship". People of my age have been edified by the friendship between China and Romania very early. At that time, excellent Romanian films were well known in China. China and Romania always pay mutual respect, treat each other with sincerity and share weal and woe. The tree of China-Romania friendship is flourishing with countless rich fruits. The Chinese side speaks highly of the firm support from the Romanian side on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. As this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of comprehensive friendly cooperative partnership between the two countries, it is hoped that both sides can start from a new historical starting point and promote China-Romania relations for new and greater development.

Xi Jinping briefed on China's comprehensively deepening reforms, stressing that we have already established the "two Centenary Goals", and that we are confident and capable of overcoming all kinds of difficulties and challenges, promoting sustainable and sound economic development and continuing to provide impetus for world economic growth. China welcomes all countries in the world to take the express train of China's development, where they can share opportunities and achieve common development. The Chinese side stands ready to join hands with the Romanian side to march forward on the path to achieve respective beautiful dreams.

Xi Jinping stressed that I visited Europe this March and made a unanimous decision with the EU leaders to jointly build four major partnerships characterized by peace, growth, reform and civilization and to realize the combination of the two powers, two markets and two civilizations of China and the EU. Romania is China's good friend and good partner in the EU as well as an important country in Central and Eastern Europe. China and Romania should implement well the consensuses reached by China and the EU and China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) on a bilateral level to elevate the China-Romania friendly cooperation to a higher level.

Ponta expressed that Romania is proud of the Romania-China traditional friendship. The Romanian side admires the Communist Party of China for leading the Chinese people to firmly stick to the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, values China's important role in promoting world peace and development and will continue to firmly support China's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. China's development provides Romania with great opportunities and the Romanian side looks forward to expanding people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthening cooperation and deepening friendship with the Chinese side. Romania is China's friendly power in the EU and stands ready to make positive contribution to promoting the development of the EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership as well as the CEEC-China cooperation.
