Yang Jiechi Meets with Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu of Romania

On February 6 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, who was in Germany for the attendance of the 51st Munich Security Conference, met at request with Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu of Romania.

Yang Jiechi expressed that in recent years, China-Romania relations enjoy a momentum of rapid development with close high-level exchanges. Both sides together celebrated the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral comprehensive friendly partnership last year, pushing bilateral relations to a new historical stage for development. China attaches great importance to developing bilateral relations, and will, together with Romania, maintain high-level exchanges, deepen mutual political trust, elevate practical cooperation in such fields as energy, high-speed rail and agriculture, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges and carry forward traditional friendship, so as to push bilateral relations for greater development.

Yang Jiechi said that Romania has always been important participant and promoter of the cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC). China supports Romania to play a greater role in the 16+1 cooperation, and will fully cooperate and coordinate with the 16 countries including Romania to continue advancing the 16+1 cooperation. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, it is hoped that Romania will work with China to push for the sustained and healthy development of China-EU relations by playing its unique role in the EU.

Bogdan Aurescu said that Romania and China are each other's important partners and their relations have always maintained a sound development momentum. In recent years, the two countries witness frequent high-level exchanges, continuously deepened economic and trade cooperation as well as constant progress in major cooperation projects such as energy and infrastructure. Romania hopes to maintain the momentum of bilateral high-level exchanges and further boost bilateral relations, welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and establish business in Romania, and expects to set up the Romanian Culture Center in Beijing at an early date to further advance bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Romania will continue positively contributing to CEEC-China cooperation and EU-China relations.
