Joint Communioue on the EstabliI Shment of Diplomatic Relation Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Slovenia

The Government of the People?s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia have decided, in accordance with the interests and aspirations of the two peoples, to establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level, effective from 12 May 1992.

The two Government have agreed to develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other?s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia recognizes that the Government of the People?s Republic of China is the sole legal government of China and that Taiwan is an alienable part of Chinese territory. The Government of the Republic of Slovenia affirms that it will not establish official relations with Taiwan.

The Government of the People?s Republic of the China supports the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in its efforts to seek membership in the United Nations and other international organizations.

The two Governments have agreed that each shall render, on the basis of equality and reciprocity, and in accordance with international practice, all the assistance necessary for the performance of the duty of the diplomatic representative of the other.

This Joint Communiqué shall enter into force upon its signature.

Done in duplicate on 12 May 1992 at Ljubljana in Chinese, Slovenian and English languages, all texts being equally authentic.
