On December 14, 2019 local time, President Borut Pahor of Slovenia met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Presidential Office in Ljubljana.

Borut Pahor asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. He said, the Slovenian people and the Chinese people enjoy profound friendship and mutual trust, which is the political foundation for the constantly in-depth and practical development of Slovenia-China cooperation. China is not only Slovenia's important economic partner, but also a trustworthy partner for political cooperation. The Slovenian side highly recognizes and appreciates that China upholds the equality between all countries regardless of the size, respects each country's choice of a development path that suits its own national conditions, adheres to multilateralism and promotes the development of state-to-state relations featuring mutual benefit and win-win results. It is completely wrong to regard China's development as a threat. The Slovenian side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to intensify exchanges, give full play to respective strengths, and expand cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, science and technology, culture and education, in a bid to better benefit the two peoples. The Slovenian side is ready to play an active role in promoting the relations between the European Union (EU) and China and cooperation between Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) and China.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Borut Pahor. Wang Yi said, as an EU member and an important country in Central and Eastern Europe, Slovenia has played an important and constructive role in China-CEEC cooperation and the development of China-EU relations. Both China and Slovenia advocate multi-polarization, democracy in international relations, maintaining multilateralism and opposing unilateralism, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and remaining committed to resolving differences and disputes through dialogue. This is an important basis for the two countries to continuously consolidate political mutual trust and advance mutually beneficial cooperation. Under the current international situation, China and Slovenia should strengthen communication with all parties, work together to maintain multilateralism and the basic norms of international relations, and safeguard the common interests of all parties. China and the EU are cooperation partners rather than rivals, and have far more consensus than differences. The Chinese side is willing to take a series of important diplomatic agendas, including the China-CEEC Summit to be held in China next year, as an opportunity to pursue common development, share opportunities and strive for broader prospects for China-Slovenia and China-EU relations.
