On December 14, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Speaker of the National Assembly Dejan Zidan of Slovenia in Ljubljana.

Wang Yi praised Dejan Zidan for his long-term efforts in promoting China-Slovenia friendly cooperation, and said, bilateral relations are rooted in the friendship between the two peoples. The Chinese side supports more exchanges between its National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Assembly of Slovenia as well as exchange of experience in state governance and administration, in a bid to continuously consolidate social and public opinion foundation for bilateral relations. Both China and Slovenia support multilateralism, and the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries is a manifestation of multilateralism. The Chinese side is willing to enhance cooperation with the Slovenian side, jointly safeguard multilateralism, promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and protect our earth. It is hoped that the Slovenian side will play a greater role in and make new contributions to promoting China-Europe relations, especially the "17+1 cooperation".

Dejan Zidan spoke positively of Slovenia-China relations. He said, fruitful exchanges between the National Assembly of Slovenia and China's NPC have contributed to enhancing friendship between the two peoples since our two countries established diplomatic relations 27 years ago. The National Assembly of Slovenia is willing to increase exchanges with the NPC so as to translate the two peoples' friendship into more cooperation results. The Slovenian side highly appreciates the Chinese side's adherence to multilateralism and its vital role in international affairs. Dejan Zidan thanked the Chinese side for its support for Slovenia in the multilateral arena, and hoped to strengthen cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, education, scientific and technological research, and winter sports. The Slovenian side is willing to continue to play a positive role in promoting dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and China.
