President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with President Aleksandar Vucic on the evening of 14 April.

President Xi hailed China-Serbia relations as one of the strongest in state-to-state relations. The two countries' concerted effort to fight the COVID-19 outbreak is the latest embodiment of their brotherly bond and sincere friendship. China feels keenly for the Serbian people as they battle the outbreak, and has sent urgently needed medical and protective supplies as well as high-caliber medical experts. More assistance and support will be provided. Xi said he is convinced that under the strong leadership of his Serbian counterpart, the heroic and fearless Serbian people will prevail over the virus at an early date.

Xi stressed that the special and profound friendship between China and Serbia was forged with blood and shared purpose. This iron-clad friendship will emerge even more unbreakable after being tested by various risks and challenges. China stands ready to work with Serbia to uphold international justice and marshal greater international solidarity to overcome the COVID-19 challenge. Xi expressed his conviction that after fighting the outbreak together, China and Serbia will usher in a brighter future for their comprehensive strategic partnership. "May China and Serbia enjoy ever-lasting friendship!", said Xi.

President Vucic said he is gratified to see the outbreak brought under control in China. The Serbian people will never forget China's tremendous generosity in their hour of need, particularly the Chinese medical experts who helped greatly with containing the outbreak in Serbia. China has given the Serbian people hope for defeating the virus. No matter what obstacle or challenge may lie ahead, the Serbian people will always be sincere, reliable and iron-clad friends of the Chinese people. Serbia will do whatever it can to protect the Chinese nationals on its soil. Vucic said he looks forward to maintaining his close ties with Xi.
