Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo Attends the Reception for the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Finland

On October 28, 2020, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo attended the reception celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Finland at the Embassy of Finland in China.

In his speech, Wu Hongbo congratulated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Finland. Wu said, although China and Finland are different in history, culture, national and social conditions, and development stages, the two sides have maintained close contact and deep friendship since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Mutual respect and sincere treatment are fundamental to the continuous development of bilateral relations, which should be safeguarded and cherished by both sides. Facing the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Finland have been helping and supporting each other to overcome the difficulties together. China is willing to work with Finland to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, restart and strengthen practical cooperation in various fields including economy and trade, science and technology, local cooperation and winter sports, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Matti Anttonen, State Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, delivered a speech via videolink, expressing Finland's appreciation for China's successful prevention and control of the epidemic and assistance to the international cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, extending welcome for China's participation in the COVAX, and making positive comment on China's announcement of achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060. Finland is ready to work with China to uphold mutual respect, consolidate mutual trust, continue to strengthen cooperation in the fields covering economy, trade and investment, health education, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges, so as to jointly write a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations.
