From 12 to 13 April 2023, during his visit to France, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming held talks respectively with Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry Philippe Errera, and with Americas, Asia and Oceania Adviser to the French President Walid Fouque and Strategic Affairs and Disarmament Adviser Xavier Chatel. The two sides exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, China-France relations, the Ukraine crisis and other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The two sides agreed that President Macron’s visit to China was a full success and expressed their readiness to jointly implement the important common understandings between the two presidents and work for new outcomes of the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.
Liu Xiaoming elaborated on China’s policy and position on the Korean Peninsula issue. He said that China will work with France to sustain close communication on the Korean Peninsula issue and other regional and international hotspots, practice true multilateralism, and contribute more stability and certainty to a turbulent world.
Errera, Fouque and Chatel recognized China’s important role in international affairs, and agreed that hotspot issues such as the Korean Peninsula should be settled politically through dialogue and consultation.
