On September 8, 2012, Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker in Luxembourg City.

Hui first conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes from Premier Wen Jiabao to Juncker. The prime minister, a veteran leader in Europe, is a good friend of China, he said. Hui spoke highly of Juncker's contribution to advancing China's ties with Luxembourg and Europe. Both sides will soon celebrate the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Hui said his country is ready to work with Luxembourg to maintain contacts at top and other levels and advance pragmatic cooperation in a bid to ensure sound and fast growth of their ties. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, visited Luxembourg in May, reaching broad consensus with leaders of Luxembourg on the development of bilateral cooperative relations.

Noting that bilateral economic and trade cooperation has yielded fruitful results, Hui said Beijing encourages more Chinese enterprises to take Luxembourg as a gateway to expand their presence in Europe. He hoped financial institutions and businesses of the two countries will continue to expand areas of cooperation and enrich cooperation content. He also called for expanding cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Luxembourg and between China and Europe so as to make China-Luxembourg, China-EU friendship be more deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples. Hui noted that it was unfair for the European Union to launch anti-dumping investigations against Chinese solar panels, hoping that Luxembourg could hold a fair and just position and exert positive influence on that issue.

For his part, Juncker asked Hui to convey his cordial greetings and good wishes to Premier Wen. He said his country is satisfied with the sound political and economic ties with China and appreciates China's assistance to Europe to fight the debt crisis. Luxembourg welcomes China's steps to internationalize its currency and welcomes more Chinese investment and visitors, Juncker said, adding that the two countries could resolve trade frictions through consultations and negotiations. Speaking of the great achievements China has made during its opening-up, the prime minister said that the two countries have a lot to learn from each other and that there is a huge potential for bilateral cooperation.

Hui upon request briefed on agricultural reform and development in China and the two sides also exchanged views on agricultural cooperation.
